Trip Extensions

Why not add a safari or beach extension to your trekking holiday or walking holiday, and really make the most of your trip to East Africa?  Trip extensions generally work better after your trek or walk, and are something special in this part of the world, with so many exotic sights and sounds to experience.

We offer a small range of safari and beach extensions to your trek of varying lengths to beautiful places such as the Ngorongoro Crater; Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Arusha, Katavi and Mahale Mountains National Parks; Lake Tanganyika; and the spice island of Zanzibar.  If you want to look at some more information about the national parks we visit in Tanzania, a good place to start would be http://www.tanzaniaparks.com.

Choose one, or a combination of extensions, make them shorter or longer, or suggest your own particular extension (eg to the Selous National Park in the south and a nearby beach extension on the coast) for us to organise for you.  Whatever you decide, extensions are a great way of relaxing and reflecting after your trek or walk.

As most of our trips are to Tanzania, we offer our safari and beach extensions to your trek in Tanzania, but would happily quote for similar extensions in Kenya (eg a northern safari to Samburu and the Aberdares would work very well after Mt Kenya; or a lazy few days on the white sandy beaches around Mombasa - or both!).

A word of warning; game lodges/camps are set in wild and beautiful places, but because of their remoteness, they are a lot more costly to build and operate than a hotel in a town location, and this is reflected in their prices.  The same applies to travel to and from the lodges/camps - generally, the more remote a location, the costlier it is both to get there and to stay there!  For groups on a budget, we do also offer two safari extensions using tented accommodation.

Our shortest extension is just for one extra day.  This short safari extension is to enjoy a day of game drives in Arusha National Park, with canoeing (optional) in the park on Momella Lake.

We offer a choice of two guided northern Tanzania lodge safari extensions.
One is for three days and visits the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater and the Tarangire National Park, staying two nights in wildlife lodges.

The other is for four days, and visits the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks (with optional night game drive, and canoeing), staying three nights in wildlife lodges.

We also offer two guided northern Tanzania camping safari extensions, using tented accommodation outside the national parks.  Our 3 day camping safari visits the two very different national parks of Tarangire and Lake Manyara.

Our other camping safari extension is for four days and visits the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, as well as Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks.

Relax and unwind on the beautiful spice island of Zanzibar, situated a short distance off the Tanzanian coast in the Indian Ocean.  Fly from Arusha and enjoy three days in this idyllic beach and ocean haven, staying at a choice of beach resort hotel or beach lodge.

For a really remote experience that is well off the beaten track, we offer two extensions deep into the far west of the country.  Access by road is exceedingly difficult, and is really only via light aircraft, which makes the trips more expensive.
The four or five day western safari extension visits the isolated Katavi National Park with its high concentrations of game, including hippos and crocodiles, and staying in one of only two permanent safari tented camps.

Our four or five day Tanganyika extension is a hybrid beach and safari extension.  You stay in a superb camp on the sandy shores of Lake Tanganyika, inside the Mahale Mountains National Park.  In the morning, track and spend time with the chimpanzees in the park, and in the afternoon, relax on the beach or on the lake.

In view of the travelling time and cost to get to such remote places, it is worth considering either staying for longer (8 days fits the flight schedule), or combining these two western extensions into one of 8 days - which, combined with a trek/walk, would give you the trip of a lifetime!  Should you decide to visit both Katavi and Mahale National Parks, it is necessary to visit Katavi first in view of the routing of the flight.  Prices for this combined trip are detailed in both the Katavi safari extension and Tanganyika extension pages.
