Local accommodation in Tanzania
and Kenya will be in tents, mountain huts, hotels or lodges. All
of the prices for our trips are based on two people sharing (of the
same sex unless travelling together) a room or tent.
The tented accommodation whilst on one of our treks or
walking trips is also mentioned on the Clothing and Equipment page.
You will be camping in relative comfort as all tents we provide are
fairly roomy for two people, are of sturdy 3-4 season design with
groundsheets that protect from the conditions sometimes experienced
higher up. There are separate dining and kitchen tents and all
the equipment needed for the kitchen and meal times is provided.
You will be accompanied by a support crew who will carry bags and
equipment, set up camp and cook your meals. On certain trips,
accommodation is in mountain huts, arranged in small dormitory style.
The national parks provide the toilet facilities on the
mountains, but they are at best very basic.
There are of course hotels and lodges that we also use
during the trips. Often only used for a night either end of the
holiday, the hotels and lodges we use in Arusha, Moshi and Nairobi are
not luxury hotels, as the extra cost and benefit is not really
worthwhile, when all we really need is a shower and bed for the night.
The hotels that we stay at are mentioned in each trip
itinerary, they are all good quality and of a high standard and are
perfectly comfortable places to stay, having strong individual
characters and are built and decorated in a rustic African style.
The Ilboru Safari Lodge is on the outskirts of Arusha,
at the foot of Mt Meru. It is set in its own large gardens and
each room is an individual thatched building with comfortable
décor and a large communal swimming pool. The other main
hotels we use in Tanzania are the Impala Hotels in Arusha and
Moshi (below the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro). The Impala
Arusha is a modern 'city' hotel with African character, quite lively,
very conveniently located on the edge of Arusha town centre, with a
good choice of restaurants and a swimming pool. The Impala Moshi
is smaller and is a spacious, open-air hotel with a central
swimming pool surrounded by individual rooms in their own separate
little buildings. In Nairobi, we stay at the Boulevard Hotel,
which is on the northern outskirts of the city. It is a pleasant,
modern hotel set in its own gardens with a swimming pool, with clean,
comfortable rooms, and close enough to the city centre for a shopping
or sightseeing trip.
These are the hotels we choose to stay in, but if at the
time of booking the hotels are already fully booked we will use another
of similar quality.
Electricity in the towns and cities of East Africa is
230-240 V, the power supply is generally reliable, and the most common
sockets are the square three-pin UK-type, but some older properties may
have round two or three pin sockets.
Please refer to the Tailormade
page for any accommodation preferences or queries, such as staying
another night to relax after the trek or walk.
Single Supplement
All of the prices for our trips are based on two people sharing (of the
same sex unless travelling together) a room or tent. On trips
staying in mountain huts, it will not be possible to arrange single
accommodation. On most trips, at an additional cost, it is
possible to arrange for single occupancy of a tent but it may
be more difficult for a hotel/lodge room. You must advise us
at the time of booking of your request and we will do our best to
arrange it for you, but the greater the amount of notice we receive,
the greater the chance of accommodating your request. The extra
cost of single occupancy varies by trip and is shown separately under
'Single Supplement' for each trip. If we are unable to
arrange for all accommodation to become single occupancy, we shall
advise you and requote you a revised supplement. |
