Exchange Rates

Movements in the foreign exchange rates between the UK Pound and other currencies affect our lives, and the prices we pay for our goods and services.  In the price of our trips there are many costs that can and do fluctuate according to exchange rate movements, and it is the US Dollar that our prices are most sensitive to.  All our local costs in East Africa are based in US$; all our National Park fees are charged by the respective National Parks Authority in US$; and all our flight costs depend on the US$ effect on the price of aviation fuel.

All UK£ prices quoted on our website are based on a US$ exchange rate that we update periodically during each year, subject to its volatility.  The US$ exchange rate currently used to base our UK£ trip prices on is $1.59 to £1 as at 3 August 2010.  It is also detailed under Trip Prices in Booking Conditions.  Unless trip prices in £ are regularly revised in line with changes in the $ exchange rate, then an out of date £ trip price can be misleading when compared to a trip price based on a current $ exchange rate.  We prefer to be transparent and openly state the US$ exchange rate used, as it can be quite a shock when an old £ price is revalued to a current £ price, especially given the adverse movements in the $ against the £ during the early parts of 2009 and 2010.

Movements away from this exchange rate will affect the £ price of our trips, and we will revise the price at the time of final payment to reflect the real cost of the trip at that time.  If the price revision is within plus or minus 2% of the quoted price, then no adjustment will be made. If the revision is more than 2%, then any price reduction in excess of 2% will reduce your trip price; conversely, any price increase in excess of 2% will increase your trip price.  In any event, there will be no revision to any prices within 4 weeks of departure.
