On all our walking and trekking adventure holidays,
group sizes are from 4 people up to a maximum of 12
people. If the group size is kept too small it could restrict how
many people can take part in the trip, and could become relatively
costly per person. If it is too big it may not feel as personal,
and can be less enjoyable to walk or trek through stunning scenery with
a large group of (at first) relative strangers. Limiting the
group size to these numbers keeps it a manageable, close, friendly
group, it limits environmental impact and allows everyone to get to
know each other. People can meet on trek or walk as strangers,
but through spending time together get to know each other and through
sharing experiences can become close friends that keep in touch after
the trip.
If you wish to travel in a larger group (schools,
charity etc), or a smaller group of close friends, a couple or even a
single traveller, we can arrange this, and we have further
information on the Tailormade
page about some of these options. We regularly organise private
group trips and offer a group discount if booked on a
single booking - please call us to discuss.
Age Limits
Travelling in East Africa is more demanding than in other countries and
the nature of trekking and walking means younger people may find it
hard to cope on some of our holidays. There are some demanding
days on trek and the general exertions mount up over the course of the
trip - so on all our adventure holidays, age limits are set with a
minimum age of 14 years. People younger than this do not
generally have as much stamina or strength and we feel they are too
young to be unfairly subjected to the rigours of altitude - curtailing
their enjoyment and imposing unnecessary worry on their parents, the
guides, and the group.
For the same reasons we have to set an upper age limit
and cannot take anyone over the age of 75. Our insurance scheme
will not cover anyone over this age, and Tanzania National Parks
authority actually stipulate this is the maximum age for people to
attempt to climb on Kilimanjaro. Travellers over 65 have to meet
the requirements of our insurance provider and unfortunately have to
pay an increased premium, but are very welcome.
