Our adventure trips take
you to some of the most spectacular places in East Africa,
whether you wish to fulfil a lifetime's ambition, are looking for a
challenge or wish to visit true African wilderness. We offer seven treks
via the best routes on Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya and Mt Meru, and
with our Kilimanjaro-only trips, we deliberately give more days on
the mountain (7 or 8 days) to improve both the acclimatisation to altitude
and the chances of summitting (see Altitude and
Acclimatisation
for more information). For both serious and fun runners, we
offer the unique Kilimanjaro Marathon (or Half Marathon), which
gives a
very different marathon experience. Our two exciting walking holidays include
game viewing before experiencing the solitude of the Loita Hills or
the Ngorongoro Highlands, both areas of untouched wilderness with
lots to offer but less strenuous than the big mountains.
Africa has some superb coastline and amazing
wildlife
parks, if you wish to experience something different after your trip (like a safari, beach break, skydiving, canoeing etc), just click on Trip Extensions.
We also give you the opportunity under each
trip to be able to create your own bespoke adventure trip, using our Make my own adventure option.

Climb Kilimanjaro via its quietest and
most varied route on an extended itinerary, giving eight days
on the mountain to see and experience more
of Kilimanjaro. Taking in the Shira Plateau
and the Western Face, we then follow the isolated and rarely trod Kibo North Circuit path to the Saddle, enjoying views of Mawenzi on the way to summitting one of the seven continental summits.

Summit the world's highest free-standing mountain by way of the quiet north-eastern Rongai Route, overlooking Kenyan plains and travelling through lush forest then alpine moors up to the rest day at Mawenzi tarn at the foot of impressive Mawenzi, Kilimanjaro's most dramatic peak. Then cross the Saddle experiencing alpine desert before ascending the highest mountain in Africa for far reaching views at sunrise. An unforgettable, classic adventure.

Reach the top of one of the seven continental summits after starting in the forested foothills. Climbing onto the Shira Plateau, this route takes us under the imposing west face with its glaciers, buttresses and cliffs as we follow the Kibo South Circuit path before ascending to Stella Point on the crater rim on the way to the summit. This is a well-established and popular route taking in a lot of Kilimanjaro on the way to its summit.

We offer a superb route up Mount Kenya
(Africa's second highest mountain), using the Chogoria route for
ascent and the Sirimon in descent, this enables us to trek up from
one side and down the other, giving us the fullest experience of
this striking mountain. This adventure, entirely within
the Great Rift Valley, starts and ends in Nairobi and with a wealth
of experiences in between surely makes an ascent of Mt Kenya a great
trip.

We have put together an itinerary that enables one to see the best parts of these two stunning mountains. Using the Chogoria and Sirimon routes on Mt Kenya and Machame on Kilimanjaro we trek through some spectacular scenery and acclimatise well for our ascent on Kilimanjaro having climbed Mt Kenya first. Climbing the two highest mountains in Africa, both world famous peaks and one a continental summit is a grand achievement, and an unforgettable holiday.

Situated in Arusha National Park this
dormant volcano sits in Kilimanjaro's shadow but is a spectacular
mountain reaching over 4500 metres. Starting by crossing
plains in the national park with game around us we climb Mount Meru
through lush forest via its only path and summit with the view of
Kilimanjaro, 60km away and silhouetted by the sunrise behind.
Mt Meru's summit ridge is the remains of one side of a former
caldera, the rest imploded but left an exceptional ash cone in full
view of the ridge, making Mt Meru a great addition to any East
African holiday because of the views and experiences on offer.

This adventure has it all, an ascent of
Kilimanjaro, one of the seven continental summits, a climb of Mt
Meru with great volcanic geology and views to 'Kili' (and great
acclimatisation) and a game drive in Arusha National Park to see
some african game in between the climbs. Following the Shira
route on Kilimanjaro we are given a great chance of success after
reaching 4566m on Mt Meru, altogether a diverse and very fulfilling
holiday.

Year's Day 2009!

To visit the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is on many people's wish lists and after two full days game viewing in the reserve taking in the sights and smells, we head out to the Loita Hills, an area of unspoilt wilderness on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley. This itinerary combines classic game viewing in one of the world's best wildlife destinations with walking through a little visited range of hills above the African Rift Valley, classic Africa.

First walking through the spectacular Ngorongoro Highlands for 2 days as we take in Empakaai and Olmoti Craters, we experience this unique World Heritage Site before going to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater for a day of game viewing. Then travelling to the Gol Mountains we leave the beaten track behind to spend 3 days walking through one of the most wild and unspoilt areas in Tanzania (with more maasai shepherds than tourists) before walking down into the Great Rift Valley and Lake Natron where we should see flamingos in their thousands! An ascent of the active volcano Oldoinyo Lengai is an option if you wish, before game viewing in Lake Manyara National Park over the last 2 days. This full and varied holiday could become a classic East African itinerary for those wishing to leave the crowds behind and really see Africa.

Western Breach
The Western Breach is the
most technical route to make an ascent of Kilimanjaro.
Traditionally requiring the use of crampons, this route climbs
through a breach in the cliffs and glaciated west face of Kibo and
onto the crater near Furtwangler glacier, but increasing
temperatures have meant less and less ice on the route. This
has made the rock and ground conditions unstable, and in
January 2006 there was a rockfall as trekkers were climbing towards
the crater, which resulted in some people losing their lives.
The Tanzania National Parks Authority closed the route to assess if
it is safe, and reopened it in early 2008.
We still have concerns over this route and are investigating further: therefore, for the safety of our travellers, we are not yet offering a Kilimanjaro climb via the Western Breach.
