The heart and soul of an East African Adventure - sunrise over Kilimanjaro

Masai Mara and Loita Hills

Our Kenya walking holiday to Masai Mara and Loita Hills also includes a game viewing safari in the world famous Masai Mara. This national reserve in Kenya covers roughly 1100 square kilometres and is home to vast numbers of African game, including the migration of vast numbers of wildebeest following the rain and food, zebra and gazelle. We try to visit 'the Mara' at the best time of year to see the migration, as around August to October time, the animals should have migrated north from the Serengeti into the Masai Mara. Staying at Sand River campsite we spend the first two days of the trip game viewing and camping in this special place, with one whole day game drive we can cover a lot of ground and hope to see many of the big classic game.

After the Masai Mara safari, it is on to the Loita Hills for a totally different second part to this Kenya walking holiday. The Loita Hills are an isolated range of hills that offer something different from the bigger East African peaks. The range is a group of rolling hills reaching 2600 metres, with great views, rain forest and wildlife including colobus monkeys all being part of the experience. After walking through this area we come to the edge of the Great Rift Valley and camp for the night overlooking Lake Natron and the valley floor 600m below, then descend to spend the last night of our Kenya walking holiday to Masai Mara and Loita Hills in the bush before returning to Nairobi.

Why not extend your trip and enjoy East Africa for a little longer either by combining any of our trips, or by adding a safari or beach extension detailed on our Trip Extensions page.
